from humble beginnings…

4 PLAYERS. NO COACH. A SEASON AHEAD.

Ahi Basketball started when a team wasn’t a team. Through perseverance a devoted ex-player dad, his daughter, and new friends spread the word and rallied as many girls keen to try basketball as we could find. We played that season with not one but two teams of young wide-eyed aspiring new players. But the competition was tough. The best competition had basketball in their DNA, and starting late was a recipe for hard-times ahead. We needed a talent pool, and for our players to reach competition age with a foundation of knowledge and abilaty already in place. A skill set. A basketball language. A basketball identity.

OPPORTUNITY IDENTIFIED.  AHI BASKETBALL WAS BORN.

AHI BASKETBALL

Ahi Basketball is more than a girls basketball club. We have a whānau (family)-style community of people supporting our aspiring young talent on their journey of life. Basketball is both the connector bringing us all together, and the vehicle for embedding lifelong values of smart and tough work-ethic driven players with perseverance, teamwork and a love for supporting each other to do well in life. We support each other in other sports and encourage friendships off the court.

Our players gain an identity, a support network, build self-confidence and self-worth, and learn to win on the basketball court and in life.
